Control Every Email. Unlock Every Insight.

Organizations need email archiving to meet regulatory retention rules, respond to legal discovery (eDiscovery), preserve institutional knowledge, and keep mailbox sizes manageable. An immutable archive ensures messages cannot be altered or deleted before their required retention period ends.

Backup creates copies of data so it can be restored after loss or corruption, and copies are typically overwritten over time. Archiving preserves an immutable, indexed long-term record designed for search, compliance, and legal hold. Backup answers 'can I recover it?'; archiving answers 'can I prove what was sent and retain it?'

Retention periods depend on jurisdiction and industry. Many regulations require several years of retention, and some require longer. The right policy is driven by the specific compliance frameworks an organization is subject to, which is why configurable retention rules are a core archiving requirement.

Yes. A compliant email archive provides the immutable retention, audit trails, and fast search that regulations and legal discovery demand. When a legal hold or audit arrives, archiving lets an organization locate and produce the relevant messages quickly and defensibly.

Email archiving is the process of capturing, indexing, and storing email messages in a secure, tamper-evident repository for long-term retention. Unlike backup, which exists to restore data after loss, archiving preserves a searchable, immutable record of communications to meet compliance, legal, and governance requirements.
